Description: WMy client provides design, procurement and supervision to all aspects of communications and technology engineering. Our core capability is supported by our specialists in environmental, utilities, security and architecture to deliver a fully coordinated high value service to our clients.Typical recent projects showing the breadth of services we deliver including the following:• Design and construction supervision of the HA East Regional Control centre• Delivery and justification of the national rollout of the Airwave communication system to the Service Provider community• Rollout and procurement of an interactive briefing and tasking system to the Traffic officer Service in the South east region• Delivered the first Highways Agency project using 129 wireless CCTV cameras across the South East region• Development of specification, procurement and delivery of the latest IP based Highways Agency CCTV cameras for national deployment.• Work closely with the Ha Network Access and Resilience team to improve resilience of the HA Network in the South East• Design, construction supervision and project management of a bespoke CCTV system on the A3. WSP were the first to use Screwpiles and cabinet integrated masts on the HA networkResponsibilitiesJob SummaryThis is a fantastic opportunity for engineers, preferably with a systems/electrical/ electronic/communications background, who have an aspiration to develop their career in a multi-disciplined technology environment.As a Senior Engineer you will be required to closely support the Project Manager in the day to day delivery of workload which will include all major projects. You will apply (and where necessary, develop) an understanding of the engineering and management techniques associated with communication/electrical/system biased and multi-disciplined projects.You will be accountable for quality engineering input/output to the aspects of the project. You will provide a valuable contribution toward the development of graduate and junior engineers and show a willingness to develop your own technical knowledge and understanding. Principal Accountabilities• Provision of engineering expertise to technology consultancy schemes, including preparation of requirement specifications for development projects • Design and specification of communications infrastructure projects • Delivery of infrastructure, power, system and/or transmission designs • Delivery of technical specifications and contract documentation • Support in the generation of tender submissions • Responsible for the detailed technical liaison with both the client and specialised contractors • Technical checking and design reviews • Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with company and client quality requirements• Project Management of smaller schemes• Contribute to the successful completion of projects• Respond to project manager / Client directions in a professional and customer focused manner• Act as mentor for junior staff (from other teams).• Act as team leader for a small team• Manage team resources and advise resource manager of team commitmentsRequirementsPreferred Qualifications/EducationThe successful candidate will hold a professional qualification in an engineering discipline along with having experience of working within at least one if the following: communications industry, highways environment, consulting engineering, design office/site environment. Technical knowledge:• Detailed technical understanding of technology systems, (preferably including the Highways Agency), including VMS, vehicle detection, CCTV, Transmission, communications protocols, Power (HV/LV) sub system operations. • Experienced in the preparation of detailed highways communication design• Knowledge of Highways Agency, British and European Standards • Strong technical report writing skills • Experience in the application of various contract forms• Adept in the use of Programming / project management toolsIn addition, the role requires clear communication skills and the individual must be able to develop strong technical credibility with the client and be able to foster relationships in a partnering environment. The willingness and ability to identify personal development areas and to work towards addressing these areas is crucial.
